Mobilize Recovery’s Day of Service is a national movement that harnesses the power of the recovery community—including allies, advocates and members—and convenes service projects as an actionable way to uplift one another, inspire civic engagement and give back to the broader community that supported them in their recovery journey. This year, Mobilize Recovery Day of Service is on Saturday, September 30, 2023, marking the culmination of National Recovery Month and coinciding with International Recovery Day. National Recovery Month is an observance held every September to educate Americans that substance use treatment and mental health services can enable those with a mental and/or substance use disorder to live a healthy and rewarding life.

Allen Chapel AME, in collaboration with 51st Collective, invites you to join us on Saturday, September 30th, 10am- 3pm for our day of service, “Know Your Neighbor: Community Yard Sale & Resource Fair.” The event will be held in Allen’s Chapel’s parking lot behind the church building at 936 Sudbury Street, Staunton, VA 24401.

In addition to several on-site food vendors, a limited number of 10’x10’ spaces can be reserved for community members, non-profits, faith-based organizations, governmental agencies, West End businesses, service providers, and local leaders who would like to raise funds by selling yard sale items/merchandise -or- you can reserve a spot to bring a 6ft. table to display promotional material that will educate the public about who you are and engage them with what you do. There is no fee to participate in this event however, we are asking participants to consider making a donation of 10% of your proceeds to the Allen Chapel Women’s Missionary Society’s food pantry and clothes closet to help revamp and sustain their community service efforts.
